Sierra Nevada College Choir Annual Spring Concert

Gods and demi-gods; queens and witches; spirits and sailors; goddesses, sorcerers, and Cupids: that’s the list of characters for the SNC Choir’s production of DIDO & AENEAS by Henry Purcell. This short opera is a musical treasure—the first English opera—and it will be performed as part of the Sierra Nevada College Choir’s annual spring concert. Also featured in the concert will be music by Samuel Barber, including his gorgeous “Adagio for Strings” arranged for chorus and string orchestra. Soloists include David Pierce, Anna Helwing, Karen Colbert, Olivia Hakel, Ryan Souva, Sally Hammel, Joanie Nygren, Eunice Marion, Jill Colbert, Camilla Rinman, and Evelina Rutdal.

The concert, which will be performed under the direction of Donna Roberts Axton, SNC program chair of music, is scheduled for Thursday, March 25, and Saturday, March 27 at 7pm at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church in Incline Village. Tickets are $15 at the door, or $12 in advance (in Incline at the Potlatch, Dress the Part(y), and Artists at Lake Tahoe in the Village Shopping Center, and at Pablo’s Gallery in Tahoe City), and $10 for students and seniors. Tickets may also be purchased from choir members.

Yoga Classes

Kim Orr, a new parishioner at St. Patrick's, going to be offering yoga classes and yoga therapy sessions at St Patrick's as part of working on the "in reach" for the parish.

FREE SAMPLE CLASS ON TUESDAY MARCH 16th from 2:00-3:30pm in the Chapel. There will be sign up sheets in the vestibule, or you can call Kim to register for the free class at 775.997.3001.

Most styles of yoga work within an exercise paradigm, which understands yoga as another form of physical exercise. These styles use yoga to stretch muscles and ligaments for flexibility, particularly in the hips and shoulders. Svaroopa® Yoga works within a completely different paradigm -- that of releasing the tensions in your body. We begin with the deepest layers of tension in the muscles that wrap around the spine. Svaroopa® Yoga releases the core. We call this "core release". This core release carries over into other muscles throughout your body. It creates space for internal organs, alleviates physical aches and pains, and contributes to greater vitality and mental clarity.

Svaroopa classes are gentle, therapeutic, and healing. Kim invites you to come and try a class and see what it does for you. You will be surprised at how good your body feels with out pain, and how tranquil your mind becomes. Even if you have tried yoga and thought you couldn't do it or it is not for you, come and try this. It's completely different from anything you have experienced before.

For more information about Kim and Svaroopa® yoga classes and therapy visit Kimorryoga.com.

Stay after the Saturday Night Alive! service for a meal, Godly Play (ages 2-10), youth activities (ages 11 & up), and adult education beginning November 26th. Invite your friends and family. We'll wrap things up by 7:15 PM.

What is Godly Play? It is based on a Montessori method of engaging children with story telling. It is a method developed by an Episcopal priest to teach children Bible stories and parables and to allow children's free interaction with them.
